Opener Tourney Match 2 - Rena versus Marie

Immediately after the first match, a second match was scheduled a short walk's away at the Lower Stadium. *insert winner here* has just one an exciting match, and people were pumped to see who they'd face next.
They began to fill the stadium, which was not very much smaller.

Wonderful. They switched her opponent at the last minute. All that studying, for nothing. Well, they had they they'd set this tournament up so no trainer would have a clear advantage over the other, right? This was a pretty steady match... As far as she knew, Rena was a steel type trainer. I mean steel types were only affected by grass by a 1/4th margin. Poison back-ups would also be completely useless. Technically, no clear advantages.

Then again, her mind flashed back to the day she had first come unto the island, crashing into Rena by mistake. Marie had been simply amazed by the shiny skarmory. And now... Doing the calculations in her head, if the trainer wasn't constantly at the top of her guard, the pokemon could easily sweep her entire team, or at least make room to do so. And that was the only pokemon Marie knew of. She could only guess the rest of the team...

Gah! All this uncertainty! It was near infuriating to the girl! How was she supposed to be prepared and plan her moves when she felt completely unarmed and in the dark? Marie bit her thumb. 'Okay, don't freak out. No one ever said that this was going to be easy.' The young woman took a deep breath and tried to prep herself, 'This is the clear downside of a specialty team. You've made safety nets in case something like this ever happened. Don't back down. You signed up for this." She did an uncertain-dance-like jig, trying to shake away the nervousness.

"Luff~" Marie flinched a little out of mere surprise when she had soft, pudgy pokemon land on her head. Aw~ She had gotten so carried away with her thoughts, she had forgotten all of her team were out of their balls. The trainer smiled and gently patted the pokemon on top of her, feeling the soft cotton brush up against her hand in a comforting way.

Oh - ? The young woman looked down. Bellossom had rushed up, clinging to her leg. Next thing she knew - the large Venusaur and Exeggutor were pushing there way in, - not to mention Ludicolo; and Parasect too, trying to squeeze himself in, crawling over the much larger scaling members of the team. Suddenly, Marie felt seriously claustrophobic.

"Okay, okay!" Marie laughed and bent down, embracing everyone of them as happily as they did to her. They must have known she'd been scared and freaking out. "Was it really that obvious?" She spent a few more moments with her pokemon before she heard her name being called out. The girl sighed and stood back up. Though she was still nervous about her first match and the big crowds, it was awful reassuring knowing how much her team was there for her; and how much trust they had in her. She would try her best not to let them down.

"Alright, lets go..." She took out their pokeballs and returned them all, taking a shaky breath and heading out unto the field at their call. She glanced up into the stands, which were close to being completely filled at this point. Marie tried her best to stay tall as she headed into her spot in the field; she closed her eyes, calming and collecting herself. 'This is what you wanted, right? A real challenge?' Marie bit her lip, 'Well, consider this your first one.'

Grass trainer. She was versing a Grass trainer now. Not a bug trainer.
Rena did not like this. She did not like having the upper hand. If she had the advantage and lost, she would be humiliated. If she didn't, either winning or losing would be alright. Winning would mean you took down someone as an underdog, and it is something to celebrate, and losing would be alright, since you were not expected to win in the first place.
It was alright. She'd just use his usual strategy. She'd taken down tough Gym challengers with it, and they weren't all grass type. It would be okay.
"Reeeeena Gustus!"
The faint voice boomed over the stadium. Taking a breather, she walked through the doors, straight through the tunnel, and out to the screaming fans.
She'd done matches in front of many people, so it didn't scare her too much. Still, the most people to watch her was round 5,000 at the Olivine City Trainer Tournament. This was two times that.
She gulped, and waited for her opponent.

Marie took in a few more deep breaths and let them out slowly, her eyes still shut gently as she felt a nervous jolt in her chest, hearing her opponents name being called and the roar of the crowd. It was time.

The young woman didn't bother looking, reaching down to her side bag and pulling out a small, sized-down pokeball. She brought it back up and held it comfortingly to her chest, then up to her face, kissing it lightly - both out of love and for good luck. God daaayymmmnnnn. She was so nervous, but she couldn't drag this out anymore.

"Let's go, Bellossom!" Marie suddenly shouted, addressing the field, a sharp glint now shining brightly in her amber eyes. She tossed the pokeball unto the field, her trusted pokemon appearing in a flash of blinding, white light. Rose petals appeared everywhere as the grass-type gracefully greeted her pumped audience, doing several happy twirls.

The girl smiled as the empty ball came flying back into her hand. Her pokemon was such a diva, one of these days, perhaps - she'd give coordinating a try, or at least let it get the taste of a real contest. Marie pushed up her glasses with one finger, glancing up at Rena now expectingly.

Clad in green from head to toe, not including her black and gold shoes, you could say Lynn was enthusiastic about this match. Her red hair was in a loose but pretty ponytail and topped with a simple hat, a PokeBall sewed on the front. She held up a sign high which said, That's my neighbor! In elegant green cursive, surrounded by flowers. Normally crowds this large would scare her, but she didn't seem to mind as she cheered along with everyone else, a smile on her face. So was she pumped up for this match? A little. And was it clear to see who she rooted for? Just a bit.

Bellossom, eh? She couldn't underestimate it. That think could be really strong, despite it's tiny stature.
"Skarmory. Please assist me." she called, and threw her own Pokeball. It ricocheted off a sudden burst of light, and the Skarmory appeared, cawing loudly. The crowd gasped. A shiny Pokemon!
The announcer's voice boomed once more.
"Skarmory's speed outlasts Bellossom's by 20; 70 to 50. Rena starts first."
"Skarmory! Spikes!" she shouted. The pokemon flapped it's wings, sending up sharp spike like metal. It landed on the opponent's side of the field. It would hurt each Pokemon she sent out. Though, she had to use it thrice for the maximum damage.

The young woman slit her eyes. She knew it. And by now, in this situation, all of her impression of the extremely rare pokemon had gone flying out the stadium. Her mind had already figured out who'd be making the first move before the announcer even had time to explain it, "Watch yourself!" she warned her pokemon over the man's echoing voice.

To be honest, the young woman was a little surprised to see the move that Rena had used first. She tried to do the calculations in her head. What was she planning?

Her poor little bellossom had to stop her little show dancing as soon as the spikes were thrown unto the field, letting out a little squeak as she near stepped on one of them and having to shuffle around, tip-toeing unevenly before regaining her balance. It was time to set up her own little world now, before much else could happen.

"Focus, and use Sunny Day!" Marie ordered. Her pokemon nodded and stood still for a few moments, the flowers on it's head starting to spin and glow as Bellossom did a little dance on the ground, avoiding the scattered spikes. All clouds in the sky instantly disappeared and the sunlight intensified, giving the entire arena a glow and removing any need for the man-made lighting.
As Bellossom continued her dance, Marie half-heard the announcer explain that the sunlight would remain beaming for eight more turns, and that her pokemon's speed doubled as long as this lasted. Miss Mendoza was already past planning her next few moves, by now.

It was as the announcer said himself; Skarmory had a speed of 70, but now Bellossom topped the pokemon off with 100. Marie had the first move, now. And, if she could help it, she'd like to get this done as quickly as possible. "Now, attack with your Hidden Power!" The pokemon obliged, starting an entirely new dance. The flowers on her head began to turn again as her body became surrounding in a tinged aura; now a few moments later, bright yellow-white orbs started surrounding the pokemon. And, in a flash, they were shot in Skarmory's direction.

I'm not throwing myself into the complicated land of IVs for a rp, so I'mma assume the base damage is 70.

Bellossom: 170/170

- 59 HP from Skarmory

The attack hit dead on. Skarmory lost 59 hit points, but still made itself look tough, spreading it's wings.
Rena expected an attack like that. She knew Sturdy protected Skarmory from any first move blow, and wanted to lay some back up down before offense. Her opponent may have taken it as underestimating, but it was Rena's strategy.
"Skarmory, dear. Fly." she called. The Skarmory did so, flying up into the air so that it was a tiny dot in the sky. The spectators 'ooh'ed at the height, everyone looking up.

Skarmory

Marie had to take off her glasses and raise her hand against the sky to block the light, seeing if she could try to find the Skarmory; but as she found much like the rest of the stadium, it was to no avail. At least in terms of accuracy. For her poor vision, it faded in and out. There was no point trying to attack from that height. She had a better chance of finding a weedle in a haystack.

Well, the first thing she thought of was honestly... Huh. With how high it flew, and with the light shining so brightly, the rival pokemon must have been pretty comfortable up there, where it was colder from the elevation. "Keep the sunlight strong. And watch your back." Marie warned. With Bellossom's improved speed, they might be able to -..., at least once...

The grass-type pokemon began it's familiar dance, though it was much stiffer and self-aware this time around. The sunlight that was starting ever-so-slightly to fade returned again in harsh beams. Let's hope the audience brought sunblock.


Bellossom: 170/170

"Come on, Skarmory..." Rena whispered. They needed this.
And with a twinkle, the Skarmory dive bombed, pulling up at the last minute and hitting the Bellossom with it's metallic wing. Rena smiled. That surely was a hard hitting attack.
The attack ended up doing 87 damage. The crowd anticipated Marie's next room, but not as much as Rena. She seemed to be staring at her, Pokeball clutched nervously. Were thousands of people watching her? She completely forgot...

Marie gritted her teeth as she saw the pokemon start to drive downwards. There always was the chance, but they would need to time this just right. Now? No... It was too soon, right? No - now? As she eyed the pokemon coming in a flash, she realized the exact moment her command was too late, but couldn't help and shout it anyways - despite how helpless she knew it was, but more out of hope and desperate fear. "Dodge it!"

Bellossom tried to respond. She was quick, but the time had already passed, her small body hit in the stomach and sent flying backwards from the impact of the steel wing. The little pokemon went tumbling, landing in front of Marie's feet. "No..." The trainer stared with wide-eyes, her body frozen. "Bellossom! Are you alright!?"

The pokemon lay on the ground for a few moments in a cloud of dust. Neither of them had noticed how silent the crowd had gone and how closely they were being watched. Bellossom let out a cough-like sound before slowly crawling back on it's feet. There was a wince on it's face, but once again, it stood near as strong as before.

With spunky attitude, the grass-type made a little 'hmph' noise and brushed the dirt of her natural skirt. It wasn't down and out yet. Marie couldn't help but smile, though her body was still a little cold from the shock. There was no way she'd make that same mistake again. They could recover from this. They could. Or, at least, that's what Marie told herself.

"Hidden Power." The trainer straightened her glasses and composed herself once again. Bellossom sent the attack straight at the Skarmory with a great deal more ferocity this time around, keen on her revenge for that stunt. The bright orbs shot straight at the pokemon's chest in a fierce flash, hoping to blow back the steel-type as she had been.

Bellossom: 83/170

- 59 HP againzzz

It surely blew it back, but it was not enough. "Air Slash!" Rena yelled, and Skarmory complied, whipping up a wind that produced a blade like ripple. It shot at Bellossom with incredible speed. It did 66 damage.
Surely, it was hard to bring down this Bellossom. Rena frowned. This battle, as she feared, would be harder than she thought. She gripped the Pokeball tighter, waiting to see the result of the attack.

The attack did/will do 66 damage.

Marie clenched her fists, knowing there was no way to outrun that. "Brace yourself!" She ordered. The grass-type was struck down unto the ground and another fury of dust clouds risen up in the stadium.

Her trainer coughed a few times and tried to wave the dust away, though it ended up having to mostly clear on it's own. When it cleared, it was revealed that Bellossom was on the ground. For a few moments she was still before she started shaking again. Thirty hit-points left. At this rate, there was no way she could take another hit like that.

Her condition tore at the trainer's heart. And, for a few moments, Marie considered pulling her pokemon out of this match. She pulled her pokeball up again, considering doing so; that is, before hearing a sharp call of protest from her grass-type. The little lady shot a fierce look of determination at her trainer before, once more, getting back up on her feet and facing her opponent. The tole on her body was obvious, but it didn't seem to stop her.

Marie let out a sigh, smiling slightly, "Alright, stubborn thing." The girl wiped some of the dirt off her cheek. "Use synthesis."

The pokemon started letting out a soft, but brave song, starting to dance. At first, it began weak and nimble. The flowers on it's head began to turn in circles before becoming a bright, white glow. It spread lightly to the rest of her small body, in radiant sparkles, a good number of Bellossom's wounds were being healed; and it only seemed to look more magnificent in the sunlight. Her dance and song were getting fiercer and more radiant until finally, it came to an end. "Beellllossom~ ! It did a little twirl to greet the crowd once again, looking near as refreshed as when the battle had began.

Marie smirked and looked up at Rena with sharp, amber eyes; daring for her next move as she heard the announcer explain that, in bright sunlight, synthesis was able to restore 2/3rds of a pokemon's health.

Great. Just great. Synthesis. Now Rena had to rework her strategy.
"Fly." she said, trying not to sound bitter. She was not going to hold back with Air Slash. She wanted to do maximum damage before Skarmory's inevitable knock out. The Skarmory flew up once more.

Skarmory:

Marie slit her eyes as Skarmory flew back up into the air, instantly doing the calculations in her head. It'd be both an advantage to use Sunny Day again and prolong the use for the rest of her team, but would Bellossom be able to survive enough hits before hopefully taking her opponent out of the ring? With Fly and Air Slash...
Time was running out. Marie shut her gaze tightly and pushed her glasses up with one finger, trying to concentrate. Could she afford another Sunny Day...? ...No, she didn't want to take that risk.

It wasn't a move she could use often, as there was a very limited number of times it was even possible to use, but she felt this to be needed for her pokemon's survival. "Synthesis, again." Marie ordered quietly. Bellossom did so, completely healing itself this time around in another magical, natural show. Now, all they could do was wait for the blow, both of them staring at the sky with severe intensity.

Rena smiled slightly. Perfect. She wasted a Power Point for Synthesis on 20 HP. 3 more PP to go.
Still. Things were bittersweet. She still would not be able to keep Skarmory. Well, unless Fly spam was an option. It wasn't something Rena usually did, but at a time like this, she didn't care about what her opponent thought of her strategy. She had to do the most damage she could, and it left a turn for Synthesis, just in case Bellossom wanted to waste more PP.
The Skarmory struck the Bellossom at it's descent once more, dealing 74 damage.

Skarmory:

This time around, Bellossom had been much more prepared, taking the damage like a champ and being sent backwards. She didn't do a fall and tumble like before though, instead holding her against the dirt and slowing herself to a stop.

Marie shouted, pointing straight at the target. "Hidden Power, one more time!" Not skipping a beat, Bellossom summoned more of the light colored orbs and sent them flying at Skarmory. This would be a tight finish.

Rean frowned. 74 damage but possible Synthesis. 66 damage and ultimate KO.
"66." she murmured to herself. "Air Slash!"
The bird flapped it's wins, shooting the projectile. It was highly damaged, but still able to work up a gust.

Skarmory:

Marie let out a long sigh, expecting Skarmory to take to the air again to fit in more damage; no matter how small, but was quite surprised when Rena chose otherwise. "Look out!" she shouted all too late. Bellossom took the hit, but as she had done before, slowly got back on her feet. This time, though, she wouldn't get the chance to recover.

"Solarbeam, Bellossom." Marie slit her eyes and looked onward with fierce determination, equal to that of her pokemon's. The small grass-type got on her feet. Normally, this attack would take two turns, but with the sun's blessing she'd be able to accomplish it in one.

The flowers began to turn and glow once again. The sunlight intensified around where Bellossom stood as she seemed to be absorbing every bit of the sun's energy around her. It all gathered into a blinding white ball that shown just out of her grasp. "Now!" With her trainer's signal, the light shot off in a single beam at the Skarmory. It'd then reflect off the pokemon's shiny metalic body and leave everyone in the stadium blind. You're welcome world.




Bellossom: 30/170

Skarmory fainted under the beam. Talk about overkill! Rena was pretty mad by then, as the referee called: "Skarmory is unable to battle!"
"Return!" Rena murmured, the Pokemon being sucked into it's capture device. She knew who'd she use next.
"Escavalier! Go!" she called. The Pokemon appeared, a steel knight. It looked rather angry, though that was it's permanent expression. Since one of her Pokemon fainted on the last turn, she had the first move.
"Escavalier! Bug Buzz!"
The bug started making a buzzing sound, as visible green "sound" waves struck the Bellossom, dealing 67 damage and fainting it.

Eh, I still have a headache, so you have to deal with a lazy post.

Marie clenched her teeth and watched as Bellossom fell to the ground, finished by the Bug Bzz. She was not entirely sure how she was knocked out so quickly considering the circumstances, but...
"Bellossom is unable to battle!" She heard the ref's call, confirming her fears. The trainer sighed and held up her pokeball, "Return." The small grass-type was taken back in by the familiar, strange red light. "You did incredibly." She muttered to her pokemon, now resting. Hopefully, this battle would end soon, they could get her healed up quickly, then.

She slipped the ball back in her back and pulled out another, enlarging it in her hand with a small click of the center. "Your Lord has arrived. Go, Jumpluff!" Marie called and tossed the pokeball out unto the field.

Le strange mixture of grass and flying. With the slightest breezes, the pokemon managed to keep it's feet off of the ground, avoiding the spikes laid out unto the field. "Use Acrobatics." Her trainer commanded. That awkward moment you realize Flying Gem is completely useless in this roleplay since the move is over 100 anyways, but whatevur. Or, at least I think so. It doubles when itemless right? ofiwergerg. I'll google it later. I need to play pokemons moar. Either way...

The gem shattered in the pokemon's grasp and the wind picked up at sharp speeds. In a matter of a few moments, Jumpluff was doing circles and zigzags around her opponent before finally striking, ramming into the steel-type from the side. le ouch.

The Escavalier stopped floating at the hit. It seemed to go into a kneeling position, leaning on it's lance. Finally, though, it floated back up. Rena frowned. It seemed she'd have to use brute force.
"Swords Dance." she instructed. The Pokemon started to do so, jabbing it's lances around itself in a rhythmic pattern, and feeling for ways to attack with them.

Marie crossed her arms and watched the swords swing dangerously around their opponent. They'd have to finish this quick. Her Jumpluff slowed down and floated in front of her trainer, waiting for the orders and watching Escavalier with an almost blissful look of unawareness.
"Again." The girl muttered, holding her glasses on as the intense winds started up one more - Jumpluff becoming a blur before charging into the steel-type from behind.

"Rest, Escavalier" Rena instructed. It did so, falling asleep for a short moment. Suddenly, though, something under it's lance flashed. The Chesto Berry it had disappeared, and the Pokemon was fully awake. The audience gasped, wondering what would happen next.

Marie's eyes grew wide, just like the rest of the audience, as she watched the pokemon fall asleep - completely healing itself - then springing back to life as good as new. She wasn't sure what to do or think for a few moments; after the shock wore off though, she couldn't help but smile. "Smart." The grass-type trainer called to Rena. Although the compliment was sincere, it did have a bitter sting interwoven.

The young woman carefully thought over her choices. She still had the upper hand of speed, but she couldn't underestimate the Escavalier, especially now that it was fully healed and had Swords Dance to support it. It'd be rather useless to try to poison it, and she couldn't switch Jumpluff out with the spikes on the floor. The two seemed to be at an equal standing at the moment.

She hadn't much of a choice, now did she? "Use acrobatics!" Marie ordered. And, for the third time, her pokemon complied.
